A Moment in Time

Ancients

looked to the sky,
the sun,
moon,
darkness-
and if near water,
watched the tides.
Deeply affected
by these primal forces
they performed
rituals,
planted seeds,
hunted, fished,
drew in caves.
Hidden
until discovered,
these paintings
surprisingly
still vibrant
graphic,
give us
a sense of
their lives.
Mysterious
configurations
of stones
around the world
give clues
to how
they
measured
the
sun,
moon,
and stars.
The full eclipse
of the sun
not seen
in America
since 1932,
will
reveal the
universe
when the moon
moves
in its orbit
between
the earth
and the sun,
blocking the sun
for about
two minutes
with only
the corona
of the sun
displayed.
Across
the United States
there is an arc
of locations
which will
experience the total
darkness.
Beyond that,
some will see
a partial
covering,
light and dark
in different proportions.
Ancients
interpreted
cosmic events
as signs from the heavens.
When
darkness
is being ritualized
in marchs,
demonstations
of hate,
there is light showing
as many
find courage
to express
that light can
overcome the darkness.
The eclipse
can be seen
as a sign
from the universe,
the heavens
to decide
the degrees of darkness
and light
each of us
will
see.
Can this spectatular
astronomical
timing
open
our hearts
illuminating
what spirits
we express.
This eclipse
can be a time
for us to read the sky
and see the darkness
in our own souls
and choose to
 be the Light.
